Operational Support Officer (Visits) - HMP & YOI DoncasterSalary: £13,500Part-time Permanent, 30 hrs p/w

The Job Opportunity:

Working in the 'Visits' department, you will undertake a dual role in both security and public relations related tasks, to carry out in a sensitive and caring manner whilst treating both the general public and professional visitors with utmost courtesy. You will be required to ensure that any waiting time is kept to a minimum and fully understand all of the systems to be able to manipulate all technologies at your disposal. You must act in a professional manner at all times as you will be representing the public face of HMP & YOI Doncaster and Serco Justice & Immigration.

Key Accountabilities:

• Report for duty at the appropriate time in order to check the daily detail to take up your post for the day.
• Liaise with the Visits Unit Manager or PCO in charge regarding any special instructions for the day ahead.
• Ensure any equipment at your given workstation/post is in good working order and that any required test checks are completed (x-ray equipment, Vis Fingers, metal detectors etc).
• Aware of all security measures in place within the confines of the visits department and the prison, noting and bringing to the attention of the Visits Unit Manager, any discrepancies or practices by visitors or staff which may affect such security measures.
• Staff will be fully trained and be able to use the equipment at the post they are detailed
• Stay alert at all times not just for the passing of contraband but also for the genuine needs at difficult times, for both inmates and visitors alike.
• Checking visitors ID is correct
• Operate Camera Room and Visits Podium
• Advising visitors what they can and cannot have in their possession under the Offender Management Act 2007 and the regulations of HMP & YOI

• Excellent administration skills / experience of working in busy environment
• Excellent communication skills both written and oral
• High level skills with Microsoft Word and Excel
• GCSE passes in English and Mathematics

• NVQ2 in Customer Services
• Previous experience of working with Offenders
