At Apple Orchard, we are dedicated to supporting adolescent males facing complex needs stemming from early trauma. Our trauma-informed approach focuses on developing the whole person, helping them achieve transitional milestones and thrive.
We are excited to invite a passionate One to One Teaching Assistant to join our dynamic team! This full-time role runs Monday to Friday, from 08:30 to 16:30, during term time only. While primarily based at one site, you may also support students at local PE venues and, eventually, in college settings.
Key Responsibilities
As a One to One Teaching Assistant, you will collaborate closely with the Headteacher and class teachers to:
- Implement our therapeutic approach within the Apple Orchard environment.
- Support the pupil's learning both in group settings and individually by:
- Clarifying and explaining instructions.
- Ensuring the pupil can effectively use provided equipment and materials.
- Motivating and encouraging the pupil with tailored attention and support.
- Assist in areas such as speech and language, reading, spelling, numeracy, and handwriting.
- Utilize praise and constructive feedback to help the pupil focus and stay engaged.
- Collaborate with the class teacher, SENCO, and other professionals on Individual Personal Education Plans (PEPs).
- Provide additional nurture and support as requested by the class teacher or SENCO.
- Implement agreed behavior management strategies consistently.
- Build supportive relationships with the pupil.
- Encourage acceptance and inclusion of pupils with SEN, fostering positive interactions.
- Monitor and adapt learning activities to meet the pupil's needs and achieve desired outcomes.
Person Specification
- Minimum qualification of GCSE A-C or equivalent in Maths and English.
- Level 3 or above Teaching Assistant qualification.
- Understanding of the challenges faced by students with Emotional, Behavioural, or Social needs.
- A collaborative spirit and ability to work effectively within a close-knit team.
- Desirable: Experience in a specialist educational environment.
