Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in Our SMR Division!

Welcome to a new era of mobile repair! At the RAC, we’re excited to invite you to be part of our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division. Here, you’ll enjoy a competitive base salary of £40,170, with the potential to earn up to £52,000 through on-target earnings!

Your Work Schedule

We value your time! You’ll work a 40-hour week with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and just 1 in 4 Saturdays. Opportunities are available in the South East, including:

  • Brighton
  • Dover
  • Esher
  • Guildford
  • High Wycombe
  • Maidenhead
  • Maidstone
  • Milton Keynes
  • Slough

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome to SMR

The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but our SMR division is a fresh, fast-growing segment focused on delivering planned, structured repair and servicing directly to our members—right from their driveway to their workplace car park.

Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! You’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support you need to deliver quality work.

What to Expect

Your day begins with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and the member is expecting you. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Routine servicing
  • Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
  • In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
  • Providing member advice and recommendations based on your inspections
  • Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards

With SMR, you’re not reacting to breakdowns; you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics.

Why SMR is Different (and Why Techs Love It)

  • Planned appointments instead of emergency responses
  • Consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
  • In-depth repairs, not just temporary fixes
  • Time to do the job properly, with built-in support and parts ordering
  • Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform

This role is perfect for technicians who crave variety and independence without the reactive nature of Patrol.

What You’ll Need

  • Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

No CV is required when you apply, and it takes just 5 minutes—it’s easier than ever to start your journey with us!
