Located in the heart of Headingley, Ormston School provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, aged 5 to 18 years. Your Role and Responsibilities
As a Tutor, you will:
- Enhance wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience, and behaviour management within Ormston School.
- Collaborate with the education team to support young people's personal and academic growth by removing barriers to learning.
- Encourage positive learning behaviours among students.
- Lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
- Deliver engaging enrichment activities.
- Provide support in lessons for academic understanding or emotional and behavioural needs.
- Address immediate concerns and clarify situations as they arise.
- Create and compile information related to lessons and interventions.
- Assist in preparing information for meetings about pupils.
- Champion the ethos of Ormston School.
- Lead interventions, including reading and phonics, while reviewing student progress.
- Develop the Pupil Voice initiative in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.
- Build relationships with parents/carers, actively participating in transitions and consultations.
- Lead ELSA sessions and complete relevant training with the local authority.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A strong educational background, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, along with sound IT skills.
- Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., HLTA, Cover Supervisor).
- Experience working with pupils with SEMH/Autism in an educational setting.
- Knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
- A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
- A readiness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.
