Selwyn Hall School, a new Special Educational Needs (SEN) school located in the beautiful Foxton, Cambridge, is looking for dedicated individuals to join our team. We provide specialist education for students aged 7-18 with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Our mission is to create a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

About Us

At Selwyn Hall School, we believe in the power of personalized education. Our small class sizes, with groups of just 4-6 children, ensure that each pupil receives the attention they need to succeed. Our expansive private grounds offer a therapeutic setting, complete with:

  • Outdoor learning experiences, including a forest school and multi-use sports pitch
  • A sensory trail and conservation area
  • Fully refurbished classrooms for science, computing, music, drama, and Art/DT

Your Role

As a vital member of our team, you will:

  • Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six
  • Assist the Classroom Teacher during lessons
  • Report on pupils' progress and collaborate with staff to meet their needs
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extracurricular activities and school trips
  • Help with lesson planning and classroom preparation
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to drive interaction and learning outcomes

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • A strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga)
  • Skills in behavior management and techniques
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn
  • Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check

Contract: Fixed Term (1 year) Full-Time Term Time Only

Salary: £21,257.48 - £23,232.69

Location: Foxton, Cambridge
