Why Choose Us?

With a competitive base salary of £40,170 and the potential to earn up to £52,000 through bonuses and overtime, your hard work will be rewarded. Plus, enjoy:

  • Guaranteed Overtime: Increase your earnings with optional overtime at £30 per hour after your first month.

  • Locations: Opportunities available in Brighton, Dover, Esher, Guildford, High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Maidstone, Milton Keynes, and Slough.

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome to SMR

The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but our SMR division is all about structured, planned repairs and servicing—right at our members' locations. Say goodbye to emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts!

What to Expect

Your day will kick off with a clear digital schedule, allowing you to:

  • Perform routine servicing
  • Utilize advanced mobile diagnostics
  • Conduct in-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
  • Provide valuable advice and recommendations to members
  • Carry out vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards

With everything you need from day one—a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, and tools—you’ll be set to deliver quality service with confidence.

Why Technicians Love SMR

  • Planned appointments instead of emergency responses
  • Consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
  • Time to do the job right, with built-in support and parts ordering
  • Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform

This role is perfect for technicians seeking variety and independence without the reactive nature of traditional patrol work.

What You’ll Need

  • Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

No CV is required to apply, and it takes just 5 minutes to start your journey with us!

Benefits That Go the Extra Mile

  • Earnings That Motivate: Competitive base salary with opportunities for bonuses and overtime.
  • Tools to Drive Your Future: Free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service from day one and access to a car salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Time Off That Matters: Enjoy 23 days of holiday (increasing to 25 with service) plus bank holidays.
  • Financial Security & Perks: Pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions and life assurance cover.
  • Wellbeing That Works for You: 24/7 confidential support service for you and your household.
  • Extras That Make a Difference: Access to exclusive discounts and a stake in our collective success through the Colleague Share Scheme.

Who Thrives Here?

You’re not just skilled with tools; you’re also great with people! As a Mobile Mechanic, you’ll be the face of the RAC, providing reassurance and high-quality service directly to our members. If you enjoy:

  • Independence in a mobile role
  • The stability and support of a trusted national organization
  • Ongoing development, including future EV and diagnostic skills
  • A role where giving members peace of mind is part of your mission
