About Our School

Join us at an exciting time as we continue to grow and develop! We are seeking a passionate Tutor to support curriculum delivery and take on the role of cover supervisor. Located in Headingley, Ormston School provides a safe and nurturing environment for young people with special educational needs and disabilities, aged 5 to 18 years.

Role Responsibilities

• Support the improvement of wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience, and behaviour management within Ormston School.
• Collaborate with the education team to help young people overcome barriers to learning.
• Promote positive learning behaviours among students.
• Lead classes during PPA and absence cover.
• Deliver engaging enrichment activities.
• Assist in lessons with academic understanding or pastoral, emotional, or behavioural needs.
• Address immediate concerns and clarify situations as they arise.
• Create and compile information related to lessons and interventions.
• Prepare relevant information for meetings about pupils.
• Advocate for the ethos of Ormston School.
• Lead interventions, including reading and phonics, while reviewing student progress.
• Develop the role of Pupil Voice and liaise with SLT about the Pupil Council.
• Build relationships with parents/carers, actively participating in transitions and consultations.
• Lead ELSA sessions and complete training with the local authority.

Requirements

• Strong basic education with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics, along with sound IT skills.
• Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., HLTA, Cover Supervisor).
• Experience working with pupils with SEMH/Autism in an educational setting.
• Knowledge of behaviour management techniques.
• Commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
• Willingness to undergo an Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) check prior to starting work.
