While the RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, our SMR division focuses on delivering planned, structured repairs and servicing directly to our members—whether at their driveway or workplace car park. Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts; here, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs with all the time, tools, and support you need to excel.
What to Expect
Your day begins with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and the member is expecting you. You’ll be responsible for:
- Routine servicing
- Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
- In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Providing member advice and recommendations based on your inspections
- Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards
With SMR, you’re not just reacting to breakdowns; you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics.

What You’ll Need
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
