A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome to SMR
The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a fresh, fast-growing segment focused on delivering structured repair and servicing directly to our members—right from their driveway to their workplace car park.
Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! In this role, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support to deliver quality work.
Your Daily Adventure
Your day begins with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and waiting for you. You’ll be responsible for:
- Routine servicing
- Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
- In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Providing member advice and recommendations
- Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards
With SMR, you’re not just reacting to breakdowns; you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics.
Why SMR is Different (and Why Techs Love It)
- Planned appointments instead of emergency responses
- Consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
- In-depth repairs, not temporary roadside fixes
- Time to do the job properly, with built-in support and parts ordering
- Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform
This role is perfect for technicians who crave variety and independence without the reactive nature of traditional patrol work.
What You’ll Need
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
No CV is required to apply, and it only takes 5 minutes to start your journey with us!
