Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in Our SMR Division!

Welcome to a New Era of Mobile Repair!

Are you ready to take your career to the next level? At the RAC, we’re not just about roadside rescue; we’re pioneering a fresh approach in our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division. Here, you’ll deliver planned, structured repairs directly to our members, whether they’re at home or work. Say goodbye to unpredictable shifts and emergency callouts—this is your chance to work on a scheduled list of jobs with all the tools and support you need!

What We Offer:

  • Competitive Salary: Start with a base salary of £40,178, with potential on-target earnings of up to £52,000.
  • Guaranteed Overtime: Increase your base salary to £44,385 with guaranteed overtime options, plus additional overtime and bonuses.
  • Work-Life Balance: Enjoy a 40-hour work week with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and just 1 in 4 Saturdays.

Where You’ll Work:

You’ll be part of the Bridgwater cluster, covering areas like Bridgwater, Burnham-on-Sea, Weston-super-Mare, Highbridge, and Cheddar. Enjoy the freedom of being on the road in your local area, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work!

Your Daily Experience:

Your day begins with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and waiting for you. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Advanced diagnostics
  • In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop

  • Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards

With a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, and advanced diagnostics at your disposal, you’ll have everything you need to get people moving safely and confidently.

Why SMR is Different:

  • Planned appointments instead of emergency responses
  • Consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
  • In-depth repairs rather than temporary fixes
  • Time to do the job right, with built-in support and parts ordering
  • Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform

This role is perfect for technicians who crave variety and independence without the reactive nature of traditional patrol work.

What You’ll Need:

  • Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
