The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but this role is different. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a fast-growing part of the RAC, dedicated to delivering planned, structured repairs directly to our members—whether at their driveway or workplace car park.
Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! Here, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support needed to deliver quality work.
Where You’ll Work
You’ll be part of the Barnet cluster, covering areas like Barnet, Finchley, Totteridge, Whetstone, Hendon, and Golders Green. Enjoy the freedom of being on the road in your local area, tackling a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work!
What to Expect
Your day begins with a clear digital schedule, with each job pre-booked and the member expecting you. You’ll carry out:
- Routine servicing
- Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
- In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
- Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards
With SMR, you’re not reacting to breakdowns; you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics.

What You’ll Need
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- Minimum 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
