A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome to SMR
The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but our SMR division is a fresh, fast-growing segment focused on delivering planned, structured repairs directly to our members—right from their driveway to their workplace car park.
Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! Here, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support needed to deliver quality work.
Where You’ll Work
Join the Slough cluster, covering areas like Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead, Marlow, High Wycombe, Beaconsfield, and Gerrards Cross. You’ll be out on the road, tackling a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work!
What to Expect
Your day kicks off with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and the member is expecting you. You’ll be responsible for:
- Routine servicing
- Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
- In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Providing member advice and recommendations based on your inspections
- Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards
With SMR, you’ll deliver planned work that you can prepare for, ensuring quality and efficiency.
Why SMR is Different (and Why Techs Love It)
- Planned appointments instead of emergency responses
- Consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
- In-depth repairs, not just roadside temporary fixes
- Time to do the job properly, with built-in support and parts ordering
- Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform
This role is perfect for technicians seeking variety and independence without the reactive nature of traditional patrol work.
What You’ll Need
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
No CV is required to apply, and it takes just 5 minutes—starting your journey with us has never been easier!
