Location: Leeds - with some agile working options available.

About the Role

As a Design Engineer within Kier Design, you’ll play a crucial role in delivering civil and structural engineering services across a variety of infrastructure projects. You’ll work closely with our Structures & Geotechnical team to develop safe, buildable Permanent Works solutions, support tenders, and collaborate with clients and multidisciplinary teams.   • Contribute to design delivery, including calculations, drawings, reports, and risk assessments?

  • Possess knowledge of rail or water sector standards, or have transferable infrastructure experience?

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you’ll be instrumental in delivering innovative and sustainable engineering solutions. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering Permanent Works design across Kier Design’s infrastructure portfolio.
  • Designing safe, buildable, and cost-effective solutions from concept to delivery.
  • Providing technical input to bids, ensuring innovative concepts are buildable.
  • Developing alternative designs and value engineering solutions to enhance competitiveness.
  • Reviewing and assuring third-party designs for compliance with client and Kier requirements.
  • Identifying and managing technical risks throughout design and construction stages.
  • Conducting site visits, inspections, and surveys while advising on SHE matters.
  • Fulfilling Job Leader responsibilities, including client liaison and compliance with Kier Quality Management Systems.

What We’re Looking For

This role is perfect for you if:

  • You hold a Level 6/7 qualification and are working towards professional qualification with a relevant industry body (e.g., ICE, IStructE).
  • You have proven experience in delivering civil and structural infrastructure design.
  • You possess a full UK driving licence.

Desirable:

  • Experience with rail or water sector standards.
  • Knowledge of WIMES or Minimum Asset Standards.
  • Exposure to water or wastewater treatment environments.
  • Previous M&E design experience (e.g., simple hydraulics, pump selection).
