Join Our Team as a Tutor at Polaris Children's Services!

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? At Lyttelton House School, located in the heart of Andover, Hampshire, we are looking for a dedicated Tutor to join our vibrant community. With a capacity for up to 60 pupils aged 5 to 16 years, we provide a safe and supportive environment for children with complex needs. Our mission is to empower every child, ensuring they feel valued and respected while fostering their academic and personal growth.

Your Role

As a Tutor, you will play a crucial role in supporting our students' wellbeing and academic success. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Enhancing wellbeing, readiness for learning, resilience, and behaviour management.
  • Collaborating with the Education Team to remove barriers to learning.
  • Promoting positive learning behaviours among students.
  • Leading classes during PPA and absence cover, with planning support from teaching staff.
  • Delivering engaging enrichment activities during 'Golden Time'.
  • Providing in-class support for academic, pastoral, emotional, or behavioural needs.
  • Addressing immediate concerns and resolving situations effectively.
  • Creating and compiling lesson and intervention information.
  • Assisting in preparing information for pupil-related meetings.
  • Acting as an advocate for the ethos of Lyttelton House School.
  • Leading on Reading and Phonics, tracking student progress.
  • Developing the Pupil Voice initiative in collaboration with the Senior Leadership Team.
  • Building strong relationships with parents/carers and supporting transitions.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • A strong educational background, with at least GCSE Grade C (or equivalent) in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience in a similar role (e.g., HLTA).
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting.
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in specific areas (e.g., Food Hygiene, Forest School, Lunchtimes, School Yoga).
  • Experience in behaviour management techniques.
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
