Are you ready to make a difference? We're on the lookout for a passionate Design Engineer to become a vital part of our River Infrastructure team based in the vibrant city of Bristol.

Location: Bristol - with some agile working options
Hours: 37.5 hours per week - flexible hours available, just let us know during our chat!
Salary: Starting from £36,000 per annum
Sector: Design – Civils River Infrastructure

Your Role

As a Design Engineer, you will join Kier Design's expanding River Infrastructure team, working on impactful civil and river engineering projects for esteemed clients like the Environment Agency, Severn Trent, and the Mining Remediation Authority. This is your chance to contribute to essential infrastructure schemes while honing your technical skills in a supportive consultancy environment.

Are You…?

  • A Civil Engineer with experience in river engineering or hydraulic infrastructure?
  • Comfortable delivering safe, buildable design solutions in a multidisciplinary setting?
  • Confident in using engineering judgement to navigate uncertainty and technical risk?
  • Experienced in a consultancy or contractor-led design environment?
  • Passionate about working for a collaborative, trusted, and delivery-focused organization?

Do You…?

  • Hold a degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline?
  • Bring post-graduate experience in hydraulic structures, river engineering, or similar?
  • Have aspirations towards Chartered or Incorporated status (e.g., CEng MICE)?
  • Enjoy learning and developing in new technical areas with team support?
  • Want to contribute to fee proposals, value engineering, and commercial delivery?

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will support the River Infrastructure team in delivering compliant, safe, and buildable design solutions. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Delivering civil and river infrastructure design from feasibility to detailed design.
  • Reviewing and agreeing client briefs, providing alternative solutions when necessary.
  • Coordinating design activities within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Ensuring compliance with CDM Regulations, Kier SHEMS, and QMS requirements.
  • Contributing to value engineering, fee proposals, and programme delivery.

What We’re Looking For

This Design Engineer role is perfect for you if:

  • You have a degree (or equivalent) in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
  • You possess post-graduate experience in hydraulic structures, river engineering, or similar infrastructure.
  • You’re working towards Chartered or Incorporated status (e.g., CEng MICE).
  • You thrive in collaborative multidisciplinary teams and can apply sound engineering judgement to manage technical risk.
  • You hold a full driving licence.
