Location: Birmingham
Hours: 37.5 hours per week – some flexibility available!
Salary: Starting from £32,000 per annum
Sector: Structures and Geotechnical – Highways structures

Your Role
As an Assistant Bridge Engineer, you will play a crucial role in supporting the delivery of highways structures projects across various major initiatives, including National Highways Major Projects, SDF, TfL, and the South Wales Trunk Road Agency.
You’ll collaborate with Lead Engineers to:
- Deliver structures maintenance and new-build schemes
- Produce technical designs and documentation that meet client requirements
- Ensure projects are completed on time and within budget

Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Support the Lead Engineer in delivering highways structures schemes
- Assist with investigations, inspections, data analysis, and design development
- Produce technical designs, drawings, and documentation
- Conduct site visits and apply relevant standards (DMRB/MCHW)
- Collaborate effectively to meet project and utilization targets
- Promote SHEQ, CDM, and Health & Safety compliance across all activities
What We’re Looking For
This role is perfect for you if you:
- Hold a degree, HNC, or HND in Civil Engineering
- Are working towards IEng or CEng status
- Have experience or knowledge of structures design (maintenance or new build)
- Understand DMRB, MCHW, and CDM regulations
- Have experience within an engineering consultancy environment
- Possess strong teamwork, communication, and time management skills
