Location:
Work across various locations in Cumbria, including:
- Penrith - CA11 0DN
- Penrith - Tebay, CA10 3SS
- Carlisle - CA4 0RH
- Workington - CA14 4JH
Working Hours:
Enjoy a unique shift pattern: 4 days on, 4 days off, 4 nights on, 4 days off
Salary:
Earn £13.92 per hour (non-HGV) or £15.45 per hour (HGV) plus a 25% Shift Allowance.

Your Impact:
As a Highways Maintenance Operative, you’ll play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and maintenance of our roads across the Area 13 network, which covers motorways and trunk roads in Cumbria and North Lancashire. This hands-on position offers variety and the chance to make a real difference for road users every day!
Key Responsibilities:
In this role, you will:
- Install, maintain, and remove temporary traffic management to ensure road safety.
- Respond promptly to incidents, collaborating with National Highways to clear scenes quickly.
- Undertake severe weather duties, including gritting and flood clearance.
- Carry out repairs to highways assets such as safety barriers, fences, signs, and drainage systems.
- Perform routine maintenance activities like drainage clearance, litter picking, sign cleaning, road sweeping, and grass strimming.
