Working Hours: 23.7 hours per week on a 3 week rota pattern, which will include regular weekend working

As a member of the Cashier team you will work within the cash offices, preparing taking for banking. You will be part of a team of 2, with 3 relief cashiers who will cover when required. The cashiers work an average of 23.7 hours per week on a 3 week rota pattern. This will include regular weekend working and occasionally working unsocial hours to provide support for activity such as events.

Reporting to the Security & Control Manager, you will be responsible for delivering accurate and efficient cash management support for the admissions and retail teams at Edinburgh Castle. You will work closely with your admissions and retail colleagues and other visitor and community and conservation colleagues at Edinburgh Castle. Together you will deliver for HES an outstanding experience for visitors, enrich local communities, and run a successful commercial operation.

You will be undertaking a range of activities including greeting and assisting customers and assisting the team by ensuring we comply with all financial requirements. You will work with the admissions and retail teams to deliver a positive visitor experience, providing high standards of both presentation and service.

Key Responsibilities of this role

  • Deliver a high standard of customer service to visitors, colleagues, and contractors with the aim of exceeding visitor expectations

  • Ensure monies taken from the Admissions and Retail areas, both cash and credit, are reconciled, recorded and accounted for in accordance with HES Cash Handling Procedures.

  • Complete online/paper financial records accurately and on time, reporting any issues immediately as detailed in the HES compliance guidelines.

  • Reconcile, record and secure monies prior to sending to the bank, as per the agreed site banking schedule.

  • Carry out till audits, spot checks and cash uplifts on a daily basis in conjunction with Admissions and Retail staff

  • Constantly monitor onsite float levels and order/reduce change when appropriate

  • Open and close the Cash Office on a daily basis and change door/safe codes, as required, to ensure security of the same

  • Manage recording of supplementary monies from telescopes, medal machines, penny presses and donation boxes, reporting any issues at the time of emptying, including maintenance problems

  • Promote all Historic Environment Scotland sites, including events and other activities.

  • Work as part of a team to ensure that the site is properly presented to meet all our opening time commitments.

  • Strive to provide the warmest welcome to our visitors and engage proactively with customer service

  • Be aware of all relevant risk assessments, fire action plans, evacuation procedures, incident response guidelines and position of First Aid Boxes

  • Ensure the security of the site, buildings, and contents through following site-specific procedures

  • Monitor and comply with all health and safety procedures/guidance relevant to the site, ensuring that the health and safety of staff, visitors and contractors is a priority at all times.

  • Report any maintenance or safety issues requiring attention to line manager/or Duty Manger

  • Proactively communicate with colleagues locally, and within HQ, to ensure good team working, consistency of service and delivery of objectives

  • Provide training and share best practice with Grade 1 colleagues who work within the cash office

  • Attend meetings or training at other sites from time to time.

Key requirements of the role:

  • Experience of using Microsoft Office - Outlook, Word and Excel
