Your Role
In this hands-on technical leadership position, you will guide a talented team of analysts while directly engaging with over 100 customer environments, including high-profile public sector organizations. Your expertise will be crucial in ensuring the smooth operation of on-premises, private cloud, and public cloud platforms.
Main Responsibilities

Hands-On Technical Responsibilities:
- Serve as a senior technical engineer for Oracle Database platforms and associated application stacks.
- Lead Oracle Database upgrades, patching, and software deployments in customer environments.
- Conduct 3rd-line diagnostics and fault resolution, including performance tuning and data issues.
- Proactively monitor capacity, performance, and backup metrics to prevent customer impact.
- Maintain robust backup, recovery, and restore solutions to enhance operational effectiveness.
- Support the team during major incidents, conducting root cause analysis and implementing fixes.
- Keep technical documentation, runbooks, and support procedures up to date.

Technical Leadership:
- Act as the primary escalation point for complex Oracle and application-related issues.
- Collaborate with analysts from other teams to provide real-time guidance on live issues.
- Set technical standards and best practices for database administration and application support.
- Review and quality-check technical changes before implementation.
- Mentor team members to enhance their skills through knowledge sharing and coaching.

Customer & Stakeholder Engagement:
- Engage directly with customers to schedule work and manage conflicting priorities.
- Translate complex technical issues into clear, practical explanations for stakeholders.
- Provide recommendations on stability, performance, resilience, and upgrade planning.

Continuous Improvement & Automation:
- Identify inefficiencies and contribute to scripted maintenance and automated health checks.
- Drive improvements that reduce manual effort and enhance customer outcomes.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve platform issues.
Qualifications
Essential Skills / Experience:
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle Database administration, including upgrades and patching.
- Experience supporting local government customers using Revenues and Benefits or Housing solutions.
- Proven experience installing and supporting software on Linux and Solaris; Windows experience is a bonus.
- Hands-on deployment and support of Apache Tomcat-based applications.
- Experience in live customer environments providing production support.
- Familiarity with ITSM tools such as Ivanti or ServiceNow.
- Strong customer communication skills across various platforms.
- Eligibility for UK Security Clearance.
Desirable Skills / Experience:
- Oracle Certification.
- Experience with Apache Web Server configuration and support.
- Unix/Linux shell scripting skills for automation.
- Experience with scripted database and application backup and recovery processes.
- Understanding of networking concepts relevant to database and application support.
- Experience producing technical documentation and supporting runbooks.
