Band 3 Healthcare Assistant (General Outpatients)

This is a Part Time post for 25 hours per week.

The Royal Berkshire NHS Foundation Trust, one of the largest hospital foundation trusts in the country, is keen to recruit enthusiastic and motivated people to join our hospital as Healthcare Assistants. We are looking for motivated and enthusiastic individuals who have an interest in starting a career in healthcare and would like to gain highly sought after NHS experience in the areas of an Acute Hospital setting.

Main duties of the job

Department Specific Responsibilities - General Outpatients

The post holder will work as part of the Outpatients team, supporting the delivery of a wide range of speciality clinics and ensuring patients receive safe, effective and person-centred care throughout their outpatient journey.

Key responsibilities:

  • Supporting clinicians in the delivery of clinics across multiple specialities.
  • Assisting with minor operative procedures and, following completion of appropriate training and competencies, acting as scrub nurse.
  • Supporting patients' physical and emotional well-being.
  • Communicating effectively with patients and the multidisciplinary team.
  • Preparing and maintaining clinic rooms and equipment to ensure clinics run efficiently and safely.
  • Supporting the day-to-day running of the department including conducting clinical duties (e.g. patient observations and urinalysis).
  • Completing required training and competencies.

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and prioritise workload in a busy clinical environment.
  • Flexible, adaptable and reliable.
  • Good IT and organisational skills.
  • Positive approach to learning and professional development.
  • Care Certificate completed or willingness to undertake.
  • Previous healthcare experience; outpatient or theatre experience desirable.
