Corporate Finance and Modelling Analyst
Purpose of the role

To supportthe Senior Financial Modeler and wider Corporate Finance / FP&A teams byproviding analysis and insight from the SGN Strategic Model.
List the keyresponsibilities of the job (no more than 5).
Running scenarios in the SGN Strategic Model, analysing variances and reporting findings to stakeholders
Maintenance and development of the SGN Strategic Model including new model build
Ad hoc support to Treasury/Corporate Finance/FP&A teams to ensure common assumption sets / outputs are adhered to across the board

Numerate degree (Finance/Maths/Engineering)
An understanding of accounting/finance principles is required but a recognised accounting qualification is not essential
Describewhat technical skills and job knowledge/experience are essential in this job?
Strong Excel skills with a grounding in the fundamentals of Best Practice financial modelling
Desire to learn advanced technical Excel/Modelling skills
Strong communication skills with the ability to describe complex financial information to non-finance staff and senior managers
Good personal work management skills to manage multiple demands for different stakeholders including ad hoc requests.
Previouslength of experience required in similar role?
2-3 years' experience in a corporate finance / financial modelling environment

Ad hocanalysis requests with short deadlines are common requiring modelling scenariosto be ran quickly but with an attention to detail. All work will be reviewedwith the senior modelling manager but the role requires the ability to sensecheck outputs independently and follow governance procedures themselves avoidthe need for re-runs.

TheStrategic Model is complex with many dependencies between data from differentsources. The job holder will need to seek advice from the wider teams to ensurethat specific analysis requests have not overlooked input requirements forother teams of will have unforeseen consequences/conflicts with existingassumption sets.

Requestconflicts from different stakeholders are common and should be escalated to thesenior modelling manager to manage priorities and agree workable timelines. Therole often requires data input from other teams which may require a level ofstakeholder management behold the remit of this role.

The output of the Strategic Modelsis used directly by senior executives for short term strategic decision making.
However there are strictgovernance processes in place to ensure activity is reviewed and comparedagainst other analysis to avoid material error impacts.

We regularly send versions of thestrategic model, or specific output data to shareholder analyst teams and themodel outputs are regularly used in presentations to the board/shareholders. This role will nothave direct contact with shareholders, but their analysis will impactinformation that they receive. Again strict governance processes are in placeto minimize material error.
To what extent does the job directly contribute to departmental/company objectives?
The role directly supportsregular ofgem submissions such as the RFPR, the annual budget process andplanning activity such as the 15 year plan.

The role mainly deals with longerterm strategic analysis, but will be involved in the annual budget settingprocess and recurring annual ofgem reporting.

This is aninternally facing role which relies on building good working relationships withdifferent team across finance to ensure that information requests are addressedpromptly and ensuring different stakeholders appreciate their impact on theoverall modelling process. A level of negotiation/influencing may be requiredto ensure interim deadlines are met by data providers, or conflicting requestsare prioritized appropriately, but the senior modeling manager will help withthis.
