Welcome to SMR! While the RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, our SMR division focuses on delivering planned, structured repairs and servicing directly to our members—whether at their driveway or workplace car park. Say goodbye to emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts!
Your Work Environment
As part of the Derby cluster, you’ll cover areas like Derby, Burton-upon-Trent, Swadlincote, Long Eaton, and Belper. You’ll be out on the road, working through a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work!
What to Expect
Your day will kick off with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and the member is expecting you. Your responsibilities will include:
- Routine servicing
- Advanced diagnostics using mobile equipment
- In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Providing member advice and recommendations
- Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards
With a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, and advanced diagnostics at your disposal, you’ll have everything you need to deliver quality work!

What You’ll Need
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- A Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
