We’re on the lookout for a passionate Design Manager to join our Transport for London Joint Venture team based in the heart of London. Your Responsibilities

As our Design Manager, you will be the crucial link between clients, project teams, and design consultants. Your role will ensure that designs are not only safe and compliant but also buildable, delivered on time, and within budget. Here’s what your day-to-day will look like:

  • Lead and manage the complete design lifecycle from concept to construction support and scheme close-out.
  • Coordinate internal teams and external design consultants for timely, high-quality delivery aligned with programme and budget.
  • Ensure all designs meet relevant standards, including DMRB, MCHW, and TfL requirements.
  • Act as Principal Designer under CDM 2015, embedding safe-by-design principles and managing design risks.
  • Build strong collaborative relationships with clients, consultants, and stakeholders while providing technical leadership and guidance.

What We’re Looking For

This role is perfect for candidates who:

  • Are a Chartered Engineer with membership in ICE, CIHT, or IHE, and have substantial experience in highways and infrastructure design within London.
  • Possess a solid understanding of DMRB, MCHW, and TfL standards, with experience in CDM 2015 compliance and Principal Designer responsibilities.
  • Have proven experience managing external design consultants and leading multi-disciplinary teams on complex projects.
  • Communicate confidently and build strong stakeholder relationships with a collaborative, solutions-focused approach.
  • Demonstrate strong commercial acumen, with experience in NEC contracts and managing multiple projects simultaneously.
