Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician!

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with the RAC's Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) Division? This is not just another job; it’s a chance to be part of a new era in mobile repair!

What We Offer

  • Guaranteed Overtime: Increase your earnings with guaranteed overtime options and additional bonus opportunities.
  • Work-Life Balance: A full-time commitment of 40 hours per week, with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm and just 1 in 4 Saturdays.

A Different Kind of RAC Role: Welcome to SMR

The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but our SMR division is a fresh, fast-growing segment focused on delivering planned, structured repairs directly to our members—right from their driveway to their workplace car park.

Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! Here, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support you need to deliver quality work.

Where You’ll Work

Join our Shepherd’s Bush cluster, covering vibrant areas like Shepherd’s Bush, Hammersmith, Acton, Kensington, Fulham, and Chiswick. You’ll be out on the road, tackling a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work that allows you to focus on what you do best.

Your Daily Adventure

Your day kicks off with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and waiting for you. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Routine servicing
  • Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
  • In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
  • Providing member advice and recommendations based on your inspections
  • Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards

With SMR, you’ll enjoy structured work that allows you to prepare and deliver exceptional service.

Why SMR is Different (and Why Techs Love It)

  • Planned appointments instead of emergency responses
  • Consistent workflow without unpredictable demands
  • In-depth repairs rather than temporary roadside fixes
  • Time to do the job right, with built-in support and parts ordering
  • Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform

This role is perfect for technicians who crave variety and independence without the reactive nature of traditional patrol work.

What You’ll Need

  • Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points

No CV is required to apply, and it takes just 5 minutes—it’s easier than ever to start your journey with us!

Benefits That Go the Extra Mile

  • Earnings That Motivate: A market-competitive base salary of £45,370, with opportunities to boost your earnings up to £57,000 through bonuses and premium-rate overtime.
  • Opt-in Guaranteed Overtime: After your first month, choose to work extra rest days at £30 per hour. Just one extra day a month could earn you an additional £3,000 per year!
  • Tools to Drive Your Future: Start with a free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service from day one, plus access to a car salary sacrifice scheme after 12 months.
  • Time Off That Matters: Enjoy 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service), plus bank holidays. We support work-life balance with paid family leave and flexible schedules.
  • Financial Security & Perks: Join our pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions and life assurance cover up to 4x salary.

Who Thrives Here?

You’re not just skilled with tools; you’re also great with people. Our Mobile Mechanics are the face of the RAC, working directly with members and providing reassurance, clarity, and high-quality service.

If you enjoy independence, problem-solving, and real variety—each job is different—this role is for you. You’ll take pride in using your technical skills to genuinely help people and keep them moving.

This Role is Ideal If You Want:

  • Independence in a mobile role
  • The stability and support of a trusted national organization
  • Ongoing development, including future EV and diagnostic skills
  • A role where giving members complete peace of mind is part of your daily work
