Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician!

Are you ready to embark on an exciting journey with the RAC's Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) Division? This is not just another job; it’s a chance to be part of a new era in mobile repair, where your skills will shine and your contributions will be valued.

Why Choose Us?

At the RAC, we’re known for our roadside rescue, but our SMR division is redefining the game. Here’s what makes this role unique:

  • No emergency callouts – enjoy a structured workday with pre-booked appointments.
  • Consistent workflow – focus on quality repairs without the unpredictability of reactive demands.
  • In-depth repairs – tackle tasks you’d typically do in a workshop, right from your fully equipped RAC van.
  • Supportive environment – you’ll have all the tools and resources you need to excel.

Your Role

As a Mobile Vehicle Technician, you’ll be the face of the RAC, working in your local area, covering places like Holloway, Islington, and Camden. Your day will start with a clear digital schedule, allowing you to:

  • Perform routine servicing and diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment.
  • Conduct in-depth repairs and provide member advice based on your inspections.
  • Carry out vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

  • A Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles.
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Working Conditions

Enjoy a competitive base salary of £45,378 (inclusive of London Weighting Allowance, if applicable), with on-target earnings of up to £57,000. You’ll work 40 hours a week, with core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and 1 in 4 Saturdays.

Benefits That Go the Extra Mile

  • Guaranteed Overtime: After your first month, opt to work extra rest days at £30 per hour.
  • Tools to Drive Your Future: Enjoy a free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service and access to a car salary sacrifice scheme.
  • Time Off That Matters: 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service) plus bank holidays.
  • Financial Security: Pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions and life assurance cover.
  • Wellbeing Support: 24/7 confidential support service for you and your household.
  • Extras: Access to exclusive discounts and a chance to join our Colleague Share Scheme after probation.

Who Thrives Here?

We’re looking for individuals who are not just great with tools, but also excel in communication. Our Mobile Mechanics enjoy:

  • Independence in a mobile role.
  • The stability and support of a trusted national organization.
  • Ongoing development opportunities, including future EV and diagnostic skills.
  • A role where providing peace of mind to members is part of the job.
