Join the RAC as a Mobile Vehicle Technician in Our SMR Division!

Welcome to a new era of mobile repair! At the RAC, we’re not just about roadside rescue; we’re redefining vehicle servicing with our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division. Here, you’ll deliver planned, structured repairs directly to our members, whether at their driveway or workplace car park.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a Mobile Vehicle Technician, you’ll enjoy:

  • Routine Servicing: Keep vehicles running smoothly.
  • Advanced Diagnostics: Utilize cutting-edge mobile equipment.
  • In-Depth Repairs: Perform repairs typically done in a workshop.
  • Member Advice: Provide recommendations based on your inspections.
  • Vehicle Safety Checks: Ensure compliance with RAC standards.

Your day starts with a clear digital schedule, allowing you to focus on delivering quality work without the unpredictability of emergency callouts. You’ll have everything you need from day one: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics.

Why Choose SMR?

Our technicians love working in SMR for several reasons:

  • Planned appointments instead of emergency responses.
  • Consistent workflow with no unpredictable demands.
  • Time to do the job properly, with built-in support and parts ordering.
  • Clear schedules using RAC’s mobile service platform.

What You’ll Need

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • A Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent).
  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles.
  • A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points.

Applying is easy—no CV required, and it takes just 5 minutes to start your journey with us!

What We Offer

As a Mobile Mechanic at the RAC, you’ll enjoy benefits that go the extra mile:

  • Earnings That Motivate: A competitive base salary of £40,178, with potential earnings up to £52,000 through bonuses and overtime.
  • Guaranteed Overtime: After your first month, opt to work extra days at £30 per hour, boosting your earnings significantly.
  • Tools to Drive Your Future: Enjoy a free RAC Ultimate Complete Breakdown Service from day one and access to a car salary sacrifice scheme after 12 months.
  • Time Off That Matters: 23 days of holiday (rising to 25 with service), plus bank holidays and paid family leave.
  • Financial Security & Perks: Pension scheme with up to 6.5% matched contributions and life assurance cover.
  • Wellbeing Support: 24/7 confidential support service for you and your household members.
  • Extras That Make a Difference: Access to exclusive discounts and a stake in our collective success through our Colleague Share Scheme.

  • Independence in a mobile role.
  • The stability and support of a trusted national organization.
  • Ongoing development, including future EV and diagnostic skills.
  • A role where giving members peace of mind is part of your daily work.
