Your Role and Responsibilities
As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining two small to medium-sized school sites. Your key tasks will include:
- Maintaining clean, safe, and secure school premises, including buildings and grounds.
- Carrying out cleaning, maintenance tasks, and minor repairs.
- Supervising school cleaning staff.
- Promoting health and safety around the schools.
- Handling porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment.
- Reporting any issues to the Headteacher.
- Arranging larger repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors.
- Conducting daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking.
- Managing emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and spill clean-up.
- Coordinating an annual deep clean of frequently used spaces.
- Maintaining cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels.
- Locking and unlocking the premises as required.
- Checking security at the end of the school day.
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- Previous caretaking experience within a school environment.
- Experience in building maintenance and security, including alarm systems.
- A good understanding of health and safety regulations.
- Basic DIY skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with contractors and visitors.
- Good literacy and numeracy skills.
- The ability to work in an environment with SEMH children.
- A full driving licence and access to your own car.
- A willingness to travel between both sites.
