Your Role and Responsibilities
As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining two school sites. Here’s a snapshot of what you’ll do:
- Ensure clean, safe, and secure school premises, including buildings and grounds
- Perform cleaning, maintenance tasks, and minor repairs
- Supervise school cleaning staff
- Promote health and safety throughout the schools
- Assist with moving furniture and equipment
- Maintain school premises and report issues to the Headteacher
- Carry out small repairs and DIY projects
- Arrange larger repairs and obtain quotes from contractors
- Conduct daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking
- Manage emergency cleaning duties, such as gritting and spill clean-ups
- Coordinate annual deep cleaning of key areas
- Maintain cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels
- Lock and unlock premises as required, including out-of-hours
- Check security at the end of the school day
What We’re Looking For
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- Previous caretaking experience in a school environment
- Experience in building maintenance
- Knowledge of security systems
- Good understanding of health and safety regulations
- Basic DIY skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with contractors and visitors
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to work in an environment with SEMH children
- A full driving license and access to your own car
- A willingness to travel between both sites
The successful candidate will need to complete an enhanced DBS check, which will be covered by Polaris.
