Why Choose Selwyn Hall School?

At Selwyn Hall School, we are more than just an educational institution; we are a community dedicated to transforming the lives of young people aged 7-18 with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH). Nestled in the beautiful surroundings of Foxton, south-west of Cambridge, our school offers a nurturing environment where every child can thrive.

Our bespoke groupings of 4-6 children ensure that each pupil receives the individual attention they need to succeed. With extensive outdoor learning spaces, including a forest school and sensory trail, alongside fully refurbished classrooms for science, computing, music, drama, and art/DT, we create a holistic educational experience.

Your Role and Responsibilities

As a One-to-One Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in our students' educational journey. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Mentoring and supporting one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils.
  • Assisting the classroom teacher during lessons.
  • Reporting on pupils' progress and concerns, collaborating with other staff to meet pupils' needs.
  • Supervising pupils during non-classroom time, including extracurricular activities and school trips.
  • Assisting with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Setting work where appropriate and marking assignments.
  • Building positive relationships with pupils to drive interaction and positive learning outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • A strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH in an educational setting.
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities in areas like food hygiene, forest school, or school yoga.
  • Experience in behavior management techniques.
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.

What We Offer You

At Selwyn Hall School, we value the emotional health and wellbeing of our staff just as much as our pupils. Here’s what you can expect:

  • A supportive workplace that prioritizes your development through a variety of professional opportunities.
  • The chance to make a significant impact on the lives of vulnerable children who deserve high-quality teaching.
  • A friendly and inclusive team passionate about improving pupil outcomes.

Join us in our mission to provide a safe and engaging educational environment. The successful candidate will be required to complete an enhanced DBS check, which will be covered by Selwyn Hall School.

We are an equal opportunities employer and encourage applications from suitably qualified candidates. Selwyn Hall School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff to share this commitment.
