Location: Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke – with agile working opportunities
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility available
Starting Salary: From £42,000 per annum
Sector: Mechanical, Electrical, and Technology – Highways

Your Role
As a Senior Technology Design Engineer, you will be the technical authority, guiding design outputs from concept to implementation. You’ll ensure that our solutions are compliant, integrated, and future-ready while collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), communications, and smart infrastructure systems aligned with National Highways standards.

- Qualified: HNC/Degree in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering?
- Experienced: A highways technology engineer with strong ITS expertise?
- Confident: Leading design delivery and technical assurance activities?
- Knowledgeable: Familiar with National Highways standards (e.g., DMRB) and governance frameworks?
- A Leader: Ready to mentor and develop fellow engineers?
Do You…?
- Lead technology design packages across ITS, communications, and power systems?
- Take ownership of design outputs from concept through to implementation?
- Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, and systems teams?
- Communicate technical risks and solutions clearly to clients and stakeholders?
Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Lead the delivery of complex technology designs (ITS, communications, power) from concept to implementation.
- Ensure solutions are buildable, maintainable, and delivered right-first-time.
- Act as a technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews and approvals.
- Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways, and industry standards while managing technical risks.
- Provide SME leadership across ITS, communications networks, and smart infrastructure systems.
- Drive integration across civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems teams.
- Engage with clients and stakeholders through workshops and discussions.
- Support program delivery by reporting on progress, risks, and performance.
- Champion continuous improvement, digital engineering, and BIM adoption.
- Lead input into bids, developing innovative and compliant solutions.
- Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
What We’re Looking For
This role is perfect for you if you:
- Hold a degree in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering.
- Have significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
- Possess proven experience in leading design delivery and assurance activities.
- Have strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks.
