Location & Hours
Location: Manchester/Newcastle or Birmingham – with agile working opportunities
Hours: 40 hours per week - some flexibility on hours available, just let us know when you speak to us.
Compensation
Starting Salary: From £42,000 per annum
About the Role
As a Technology Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative highways technology solutions throughout the entire project lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for:
- Developing, coordinating, and assuring designs for integrated digital and roadside systems.
- Ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
- Collaborating within a multidisciplinary team to create safe, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure across major UK projects.
What We’re Looking For
Are you the right fit? We’re seeking candidates who:
- Hold an HNC/Degree (or are working towards) in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering, or a related field.
- Have experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
- Are familiar with National Highways standards (e.g., DMRB, TA401).
- Are comfortable working across ITS, communications, or digital infrastructure.
- Possess strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach.
Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Deliver technology design across ITS, communications, power, and digital infrastructure.
- Produce detailed drawings, specifications, and technical documentation (2D/3D).
- Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways, and industry standards.
- Apply design assurance, supporting reviews and governance compliance.
- Identify and mitigate technical risks for right-first-time delivery.
- Support ITS, communications networks, and smart/IoT-enabled infrastructure.
- Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
- Contribute to bids, innovation, digital engineering, and team development.
