Are you ready to make a real impact in your community? We’re on the lookout for a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Cambridgeshire County Council, based in the vibrant town of Huntingdon.

Location & Hours

Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire (with occasional travel to various sites required)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8am-5pm (includes a one-hour lunch break; out-of-hours cover may be required)

Your Role

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be an integral part of our Facilities Management team, ensuring that our maintenance services are top-notch across all Cambridgeshire County Council sites. This mobile role will see you based at New Shire Hall, where you’ll tackle a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks. You’ll be the go-to person for mechanical issues, helping to keep our buildings safe, compliant, and fully operational.

Key Responsibilities

In this exciting role, your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Completing planned preventative maintenance tasks, including Legionella compliance, HVAC systems, pumps, compressors, and AHUs.
  • Responding to reactive maintenance requests, diagnosing faults, and repairing mechanical systems and plumbing.
  • Accurately recording all maintenance activities on our CAFM system using mobile technology.
  • Liaising with the helpdesk and contract management team, and inducting subcontractors to ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
  • Participating in an out-of-hours on-call rota and conducting weekly site inspections.

What We’re Looking For

This role is perfect for you if:

  • You hold a full driving license and relevant qualifications such as City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3.
  • You have experience with renewables, heat pumps, air conditioning, air handling units, and general mechanical maintenance in commercial properties.
  • You’re confident using mobile technology to update work systems and communicate effectively with teams and clients.
  • You’re comfortable with the physical aspects of the role and committed to maintaining the highest health and safety standards.
