We’re on the lookout for a Senior Technology Design Engineer to join our dynamic Technology Design team in Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, or Basingstoke. Location & Hours

Location: Manchester/Newcastle/Birmingham or Basingstoke – with agile working opportunities.

Hours: 40 hours per week, with some flexibility available. Just let us know your preferences when we chat!

Compensation

Starting Salary: From £42,000 per annum

About the Role

As a Senior Technology Design Engineer, you will lead the delivery and assurance of cutting-edge highways technology solutions across major infrastructure programs. You’ll be the technical authority, overseeing design outputs from concept to implementation, ensuring everything is compliant, integrated, and future-ready.

Your Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of complex technology designs (ITS, communications, power) from concept through to implementation.
  • Own design outputs, ensuring solutions are buildable, maintainable, and delivered right the first time.
  • Act as a technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks, and gateway approvals.
  • Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways, and industry standards while managing technical risks.
  • Provide SME leadership across ITS, communications networks, and smart infrastructure systems.
  • Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems teams.
  • Act as a key technical interface for clients, leading workshops and stakeholder engagement.
  • Support program delivery through progress reporting, risk management, and performance tracking.
  • Champion continuous improvement, digital engineering, and BIM adoption.
  • Lead input into bids, developing innovative, compliant, and competitive solutions.
  • Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.

What We’re Looking For

This role is perfect for you if you:

  • Are HNC/Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering.
  • Have significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
  • Possess proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities.
  • Have strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks.
