About the Role

As a Technology Design Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in delivering innovative highways technology solutions throughout the entire project lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing, coordinating, and assuring designs for integrated digital and roadside systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team to create safe, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure across major UK projects.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, your day-to-day tasks will include:

  • Delivering technology design across ITS, communications, power, and digital infrastructure.
  • Producing detailed drawings, specifications, and technical documentation (2D/3D).
  • Ensuring compliance with DMRB, National Highways, and industry standards.
  • Applying design assurance and supporting reviews and gateway compliance.
  • Identifying and mitigating technical risks for right-first-time delivery.
  • Supporting ITS, communications networks, and smart/IoT-enabled infrastructure.
  • Collaborating with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contributing to bids, innovation, digital engineering, and team development.

What We’re Looking For

This role is perfect for you if you:

  • Hold a Degree (or equivalent) in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering.
  • Have experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
  • Are familiar with National Highways standards (e.g., DMRB, TA401).
  • Have a solid understanding of ITS, telecoms/IP networks, and power/control systems.
  • Are experienced in using CAD or digital engineering tools.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and the ability to meet deadlines.
  • Communicate technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.

Working Conditions

This full-time position offers:

  • Location: Manchester, Newcastle, or Birmingham with agile working opportunities.
  • Hours: 40 hours per week, with some flexibility available.
  • Salary: Starting from £42,000 per annum.
