Compensation
Starting Salary: From £42,000 per annum
About the Role
As a Senior Technology Design Engineer, you will be the technical authority, guiding design outputs from concept to implementation. Your expertise will ensure that our solutions are compliant, integrated, and future-ready. You’ll collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS), communications, and smart infrastructure systems aligned with National Highways standards.
Your Responsibilities
- Lead the delivery of complex technology designs (ITS, communications, power) from concept through to implementation.
- Own design outputs, ensuring solutions are buildable, maintainable, and right-first-time.
- Act as a technical authority within design assurance, leading reviews, checks, and gateway approvals.
- Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways, and industry standards while managing technical risks.
- Provide Subject Matter Expert (SME) leadership across ITS, communications networks, and smart infrastructure systems.
- Drive multidisciplinary integration across civil, electrical, mechanical, and systems teams.
- Act as a key technical interface for clients, leading workshops and stakeholder engagement.
- Support programme delivery through reporting on progress, risk, and performance.
- Drive continuous improvement, digital engineering, and BIM adoption.
- Lead input into bids, developing innovative, compliant, and competitive solutions.
- Mentor and develop engineers, fostering a high-performance culture.
What We’re Looking For
This role is perfect for you if you:
- Are HNC/Degree-qualified in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering.
- Have significant experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
- Possess proven experience leading design delivery and assurance activities.
- Have strong knowledge of National Highways standards and governance frameworks.
- Bring technical expertise in:
- ITS infrastructure and systems integration
- Telecommunications and IP networks
- Power and control systems
- Design assurance and approval processes
- Multidisciplinary coordination and systems integration
