Your Role at a Glance
As a Mobile Vehicle Technician, you’ll enjoy:
- Competitive Base Salary: Start with £40,178, with potential earnings of up to £52,000 through bonuses and overtime.
- Flexible Working Hours: 40 hours per week, core hours from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm, and just 1 in 4 Saturdays.
- No Emergency Callouts: Focus on scheduled jobs without the unpredictability of roadside recoveries.
Where You’ll Work
You’ll be part of the Derby cluster, covering areas like Derby, Burton-upon-Trent, Swadlincote, Long Eaton, and Belper. Enjoy the freedom of working in your local area with a clearly planned schedule of appointments.
What to Expect
Your day begins with a clear digital schedule, where each job is pre-booked and waiting for you. You’ll be responsible for:
- Routine servicing
- Advanced diagnostics
- In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
- Providing member advice and recommendations
- Conducting vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards
With SMR, you’ll have the time and tools to deliver quality work, ensuring every job is done right.

What You’ll Need
To thrive in this role, you should have:
- Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent)
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience as a vehicle technician working on light vehicles
- A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
