Location & Hours

Location: Manchester/Newcastle or Birmingham – with agile working opportunities

Hours: 40 hours per week (some flexibility available)

Compensation

Starting Salary: From £42,000 per annum

About the Role

As a Technology Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in delivering innovative highways technology solutions throughout the entire project lifecycle. You’ll be responsible for:

  • Developing, coordinating, and assuring designs for integrated digital and roadside systems.
  • Ensuring compliance with client requirements and industry standards.
  • Contributing to safe, efficient, and future-ready infrastructure across major UK projects.

What We’re Looking For

Are you the right fit? We’re seeking candidates who:

  • Hold an HNC/Degree (or are working towards) in Electrical, Electronic, Communications, or Technology Engineering.
  • Have experience in highways or infrastructure technology design.
  • Are familiar with National Highways standards (e.g., DMRB, TA401).
  • Are comfortable working across ITS, communications, or digital infrastructure.
  • Possess strong problem-solving skills and a collaborative approach.

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Deliver technology design across ITS, communications, power, and digital infrastructure.
  • Produce drawings, specifications, and technical documentation (2D/3D).
  • Ensure compliance with DMRB, National Highways, and industry standards.
  • Apply design assurance and support reviews and compliance.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks for right-first-time delivery.
  • Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Contribute to bids, innovation, digital engineering, and team development.
