Your New Role
Are you ready to make an impact? CNN is seeking a seasoned journalist to join our EMEA headquarters in London. In this pivotal role, you will help shape the world’s most significant stories at the intersection of business, economics, and current affairs.
As the director overseeing CNN’s business coverage during the overnight hours and into the U.S. morning, you will lead reporters, collaborate across coverage teams on major global stories, and consult with programming colleagues to ensure our coverage priorities shine on all platforms.
This role is perfect for an ambitious and creative digital-first business journalist with outstanding news judgment, excellent communication skills, and a passion for distinctive enterprise reporting.
Your Role Accountabilities
Lead the business news agenda during EMEA hours, overseeing editorial across all formats and platforms, focusing on business, markets, tech, media, and economic coverage.
Set up the morning for CNN’s U.S. audience by advancing overnight stories and ensuring essential business content greets readers as they wake up.
Commission, frame, edit, and write editorial content for all platforms, including breaking news, analysis, and distinctive enterprise journalism.
Collaborate closely with correspondents, editors, and stakeholders on multi-region and multi-platform projects.
Ensure all journalism produced adheres to CNN’s standards and integrity.
Manage at least one business reporter on the EMEA newsdesk.
Work as part of a global 24/7 digital-first cross-platform team, providing a key editorial link between CNN’s APAC and U.S. operations.
Be flexible to work occasional weekends and evenings.
Skills & Qualifications
A minimum of 8 years of business news editing and/or writing experience for leading digital-first news outlets, with a proven track record in high-pressure, breaking news environments.
Superior news judgment with the ability to think in headlines and frame complex business stories for a global audience, particularly the U.S. morning market.
Experience in conceiving and producing distinctive enterprise journalism, identifying unique reporting opportunities and investigative works.
Enthusiasm, flexibility, and a desire to foster a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with an obsession for precision.
A strong desire to experiment with storytelling formats and think creatively about serving our multiplatform audience.
Exceptional planning and organizational skills with a track record of executing detailed digital-first coverage plans.
Perfect grasp of written and spoken English.
Working Conditions
This role is advertised as a Hybrid work model, combining remote and in-office work, in line with our current company policy and to be agreed upon with your Line Manager. Please note that WBD reserves the right to adjust this working agreement as necessary for business needs.
