Your Role as Deputy Manager
As our Deputy Manager, you will play a crucial role in supporting the Registered Manager with the daily operations of our service. Your leadership will help foster a caring and respectful atmosphere for young people aged 11-18. You will ensure that individual needs are met, staff practices align with our core values, and that all care delivery adheres to legal requirements and our Statement of Purpose.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist the Registered Manager and step in when needed to oversee daily home operations.
- Supervise and support staff, ensuring effective communication and high standards of practice.
- Manage key operational areas, including care quality, recruitment, training, and basic financial duties.
- Assess young people's needs and contribute to personalized care plans that address cultural, social, and emotional aspects.
- Promote positive behavior, independence, and active participation in decision-making.
- Maintain a respectful, non-discriminatory practice while providing high-quality personal care.
- Ensure compliance with safeguarding requirements and relevant legislation.
- Keep risk assessments and health & safety checks up to date to ensure a safe environment.
- Maintain accurate records, including care plans and medication documentation.
- Build strong relationships with young people, families, staff, and external professionals.
- Support staffing needs, including recruitment and identifying training requirements.
- Assist with admissions, ensuring a smooth and welcoming transition for each young person.
- Attend meetings and share key information within the team and partner agencies.
- Ensure staff are trained and confident in relevant intervention strategies.
- Work within the rota pattern (08:00-20:00), supporting a minimum average of 168 hours per month.
Essential Skills Required
- 2+ years of residential childcare experience.
- Level 3 Diploma for the Children and Young People's Workforce or equivalent.
- Experience in child protection.
- Strong leadership and staff supervision skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience managing budgets and staff rotas.
- Project management skills with an enthusiastic disposition.
- A commitment to ongoing personal development.
- Proactive and solution-focused mindset.
