About the Role

As a Waking Night Residential Childcare Support Worker, you will play a crucial role in supporting young people during the night. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Working approximately 55 hours per week on a rota of 5 nights on, 5 nights off.
  • Promoting the welfare and safety of young people in line with the Children Act 1989.
  • Attending weekly staff meetings and supervision sessions when not on shift.
  • Building strong relationships with each young person to understand and meet their emotional and practical needs.
  • Supporting consistent bedtime routines and encouraging good hygiene habits.
  • Monitoring young people throughout the night and documenting key events.
  • Completing nightly paperwork, including the Daily Register and safety checks.
  • Preparing breakfast and promoting healthy eating habits.
  • Maintaining safety and security at all times.

What We’re Looking For

While a Level 3 qualification in Residential Childcare (or similar) is ideal, it’s not essential. We welcome applications from those who are eager to work towards this qualification. Key qualities we seek include:

  • A genuine passion for supporting young people.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • The ability to work effectively in a team.
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Working Conditions

This is a full-time, permanent position based in Guildford, Surrey. You will work approximately 40 hours per week from 10 PM to 9 AM, with a schedule of five nights on followed by five nights off.
