This is a fixed-term position linked to a specific pupil and will remain in place while the pupil attends the school.

Role Purpose

As a 1-1 Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in the educational and social development of a pupil with special educational needs. Under the guidance of the SENDCo and teaching staff, you will help create a supportive and engaging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil with additional learning needs, helping them access the curriculum and achieve their individual targets.
  • Support the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and monitor progress against agreed objectives.
  • Collaborate with teachers, the SENCo, and external professionals to enhance the pupil's learning and wellbeing.
  • Promote independence, confidence, social skills, and positive behaviour.
  • Assist with classroom preparation, learning resources, and maintaining an engaging learning environment.
  • Support the pupil's emotional, social, and personal development both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Maintain accurate records and contribute to reviews of pupil progress.
  • Uphold safeguarding, health and safety, and school policies at all times.

About You

We are looking for a passionate and dedicated individual who meets the following criteria:

  • Qualified Teaching Assistant with a good standard of English and Maths.
  • Experience supporting children in an educational setting, ideally within an SEN environment.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with pupils, parents, and colleagues.
  • Warm, patient, and nurturing approach, with a strong understanding of pupil wellbeing and pastoral needs.
  • Creative, proactive, and able to use initiative to support learning and engagement.
  • Organised, flexible, and able to adapt to changing priorities and individual pupil needs.
  • Committed to safeguarding, confidentiality, and maintaining high professional standards.
  • Able to work effectively both independently and as part of a wider team.
  • Willing to undertake further training and professional development.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Additional SEN-related qualifications or training.
  • Evidence of ongoing CPD.
  • Good ICT skills and confidence using educational technology.
  • Experience working with external professionals and implementing pupil support plans.
