Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people? At Selwyn Hall School, we are looking for a dedicated One-to-One Teaching Assistant to join our vibrant community in Foxton, Cambridgeshire. This is a fantastic opportunity to support students with social, emotional, and mental health difficulties (SEMH) in a nurturing environment.

About Us

Selwyn Hall School is a specialist education institution for students aged 7-18 with various needs, including ASD, ADHD, and anxiety. Our small class sizes (4-6 pupils) ensure personalized attention, fostering an environment where every child can thrive. Nestled in expansive private grounds, our school offers a therapeutic setting with outdoor learning experiences, including:

  • Multi-use sports pitch

Inside, our fully refurbished building features diverse classrooms and activity spaces for science, computing, music, drama, and art/DT. As part of the Polaris Community, we have been transforming the lives of young people for over 30 years, with all our provisions rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted.

Your Role

As a One-to-One Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Mentor and support one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils.
  • Assist the classroom teacher during lessons.
  • Report on pupils' progress and collaborate with staff to meet their needs.
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom activities, including extracurricular events and school trips.
  • Help with lesson planning and classroom preparation.
  • Set and mark work as appropriate.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils to drive engagement and learning outcomes.

What We’re Looking For

To thrive in this role, you should have:

  • A strong educational background, ideally to A-level, with at least GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics.
  • Previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or in a similar role.
  • Experience working with pupils with SEMH needs in an educational setting.
  • Confidence to take on additional responsibilities, such as food hygiene or forest school.
  • Experience in behavior management techniques.
  • A commitment to professional development and a willingness to learn.
