Role Purpose

As a Science Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting the delivery of an engaging and high-quality Science curriculum. Your responsibilities will include preparing, maintaining, and organizing laboratories, equipment, and resources for practical lessons. Collaborating closely with teaching staff, you will help ensure a safe, efficient, and stimulating learning environment while upholding high standards of health and safety and regulatory compliance.

You will also provide practical support to the Food Technology department, assisting with the organization of ingredients, equipment, and teaching resources to ensure the smooth running of lessons. As a valued member of our school community, you will work collaboratively with colleagues, contribute to the school’s positive ethos, and help create an environment where pupils can thrive.

What You Will Be Doing

• Prepare, organize, and set up equipment, materials, and resources for Science and Food Technology lessons.
• Support teachers and pupils during practical activities, demonstrations, and investigations.
• Maintain science laboratories, preparation rooms, and food technology areas to a high standard.
• Manage the storage, maintenance, and testing of specialist equipment.
• Monitor stock levels of chemicals, ingredients, equipment, and consumables.
• Ensure the safe storage, handling, and disposal of chemicals and food products.
• Carry out routine safety checks and maintain records to promote a safe learning environment.
• Assist with departmental administration, including inventory management and budgeting records.
• Support the delivery of enrichment activities, educational visits, and school events.
• Contribute to the development and improvement of practical resources and processes.
• Promote high standards of health and safety, food hygiene, and compliance.
• Collaborate with teaching and support staff to inspire curiosity and creativity in pupils.
• Support the wider aims and values of the school, contributing positively to the school community.

What You Will Bring

Essential:

• GCSEs (or equivalent) including English, Maths, and Science.
• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
• Strong attention to detail and a proactive, flexible approach.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a busy school environment.
• Experience handling resources, stock control, and maintaining accurate records.
• Good understanding of health and safety procedures and safe working practices.

Desirable:

• Experience in a Science Technician, Food Technology Technician, or similar support role.
• Experience working in an educational setting.
• Laboratory Technician qualifications (or equivalent).
• First Aid training and experience.
• Knowledge of CLEAPSS guidance, COSHH regulations, and equipment maintenance.
