Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND)? If so, we invite you to become a vital part of our team at Polaris, one of the UK’s leading communities of children’s services providers.
About Us
At Polaris, we have been dedicated to improving the lives of young people for over 30 years. Our community includes independent fostering and adoption agencies, leaving care services, education, and bespoke children’s services contracts. We work collaboratively to ensure the best outcomes for every child in our care, and we are ambitious for their futures.
Your Role
As a SENDIASS Support Worker, you will provide essential, confidential, and impartial support to parents, carers, children, and young people navigating the complexities of SEND. This is a part-time, 12-month fixed-term contract with a salary of £23,857.60 pro rata (£26,936 FTE).
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to a caseload of children and young people with SEND and their families.
- Assist with common topics such as EHCP applications, SEND tribunals, and social care provision.
- Help customers understand documents, co-write applications, and attend meetings or mediation.
- Advocate for customers by identifying barriers and engaging relevant services.
- Coach and empower customers to self-advocate and take control of their situations.
- Maintain accurate records of advice and support provided.
- Contribute to the development of resources for our SENDIASS website and social media.
What We’re Looking For
We seek a candidate who is:
- Experienced or personally knowledgeable in special educational needs, disabilities, education, health, or social care.
- Professional, approachable, and outcome-focused.
- Willing to pursue qualifications in SEND law (IPSEA SEN Law Training at Levels 1, 2, and 3).
- Skilled in communication and interpersonal relations.
- Familiar with the London Boroughs of Richmond upon Thames and Kingston upon Thames.
- Confident in using Outlook, Microsoft packages, and databases.
Working Conditions
This role is home-based with expected travel for regular meetings within Richmond and Kingston. You will work 31 hours per week, with a flexible working pattern negotiated with your line manager.
Benefits
We value our team members and offer a range of benefits, including:
- 30 days of annual leave, increasing to 35 days with length of service.
- Bank Holidays.
- Company Pension.
- Life Assurance (x2).
- Employee Discount Scheme.
- Medical Cash Plan.
Join Us!
At Polaris Children’s Services, we are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people, and vulnerable adults. We expect all staff to share this commitment. The successful candidate will undergo an enhanced DBS check, which we will cover.
