The RAC is renowned for roadside rescue, but this role is something special. Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a fast-growing segment dedicated to delivering planned, structured repairs and servicing directly to our members—right from their driveway to their workplace car park.

Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! Here, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support you need to deliver quality work.

Where You’ll Work

You’ll be part of the Leicester cluster, covering areas like Leicester, Oadby, Wigston, Hinckley, Melton Mowbray, Market Harborough, and Loughborough. Enjoy the freedom of being out on the road in your local area, tackling a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work where you can focus on doing the job right.

What to Expect

Your day kicks off with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre-booked, and the member is expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspections
• Vehicle safety checks aligned with RAC standards

With SMR, you’re not reacting to breakdowns; you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics. Use your technical skills and problem-solving abilities to get people moving again—safely, quickly, and confidently.

What You’ll Need

To thrive in this role, you’ll need:

• Either an NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• Or 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic
• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
