• Competitive Base Salary: £40,178, with on-target earnings of up to £52,000.

Our Service, Maintenance & Repair (SMR) division is a fast-growing part of the RAC, dedicated to delivering planned, structured repair and servicing directly to our members—right from their driveway to their workplace car park.

Forget emergency callouts and unpredictable shifts! Here, you’ll work through a scheduled list of jobs, equipped with the time, tools, and support you need to perform quality work.

Where You’ll Work

You’ll be part of the Bournville cluster, covering areas like Bournville, Selly Oak, Northfield, Kings Norton, and Stirchley. Enjoy the freedom of being out on the road in your local area, tackling a clearly planned schedule of appointments—no reactive callouts, just organized, pre-booked work where you can focus on doing the job right.

What to Expect

Your day begins with a clear digital schedule. Each job is pre-booked, and the member is expecting you. You’ll carry out:

• Routine servicing
• Diagnostics using advanced mobile equipment
• In-depth repairs typically done in a workshop
• Member advice and recommendations based on your inspection
• Vehicle safety checks aligned to RAC standards

With SMR, you’re not reacting to breakdowns; you’re delivering planned work that you can prepare for. From day one, you’ll have everything you need: a fully equipped RAC van, fuel card, uniform, full tool set, and advanced diagnostics. Use your technical skills and problem-solving abilities to get people moving again—safely, quickly, and confidently.

What You’ll Need...

Either:

• NVQ Level 2 qualification in Light Vehicle Maintenance (or equivalent) with 2+ years’ experience
• or
• 5+ years’ experience as a Vehicle Technician/Mechanic

And:

• A full UK driving licence with fewer than 6 points
