Your Role and Responsibilities
As a School Caretaker, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and secure environment across two school sites. Your key tasks will include:
- Ensuring the cleanliness and safety of school premises, including buildings and grounds
- Performing routine maintenance, minor repairs, and refurbishment tasks
- Supervising school cleaning staff
- Promoting health and safety standards
- Handling porterage duties, such as moving furniture and equipment
- Maintaining school premises and reporting issues to the Headteacher
- Carrying out small repairs and DIY projects
- Arranging larger repairs and obtaining quotes from contractors
- Conducting daily cleaning and ad-hoc duties, including litter picking
- Managing emergency cleaning tasks, such as gritting and spill clean-ups
- Coordinating an annual deep clean of key areas
- Maintaining cleaning tools and products, ensuring good stock levels
- Locking and unlocking the premises as needed
- Ensuring all windows, doors, and gates are secured at the end of the day
What We’re Looking For
- Previous caretaking experience in a school environment
- Experience in building maintenance
- Knowledge of security systems, including alarms
- Understanding of health and safety regulations
- Basic DIY skills
- Strong interpersonal skills for dealing with contractors and visitors
- Good literacy and numeracy skills
- Ability to work in an environment with SEMH children
- Full driving license and access to a car
- Willingness to travel between both sites
The successful candidate will need to complete an enhanced DBS check, which will be covered by Polaris.
