Are you ready to make a difference this winter? We’re on the lookout for dedicated Winter Drivers to join our Transportation team across Northamptonshire. Become a highways hero and help keep the UK moving during the chilly months!

Location:

Wellingborough, Brixworth, or Towcester, Northamptonshire

Contract:

Fixed-term zero-hour contract until April 2025 - Flexible days/nights based on call-outs and weather conditions.

Salary:

£22.50 per hour - Weekly pay + Standby of £17.55 per shift (Monday to Friday) / £35.09 per shift (Saturday and Sunday)

As a Gritter Driver, you’ll be on-call, driving a gritter on public highways across Northamptonshire. With competitive pay rates, including standby and enhanced weekend rates, you’ll play a crucial role in keeping our roads safe during winter conditions. Plus, you’ll have the chance to develop new skills with full training provided towards a winter service NVQ qualification!

Your Responsibilities:

As a Gritter Driver, you’ll be an essential part of our Winter Service team, ensuring the safety of our highway network during winter weather. Your daily tasks will include:

  • Driving a gritter on designated routes using the latest navigation technology.
  • Working on an on-call rota covering AM or PM shifts, including evenings, early mornings, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Responding to call-outs within 30 minutes and attending your allocated depot (Brixworth, Wellingborough, or Towcester).
  • Maintaining accurate records, including drivers’ hours books and reporting vehicle defects electronically.
  • Cleaning and maintaining your vehicle upon completion of routes.

What We’re Looking For:

This role is perfect for you if:

  • You hold a current HGV licence.
  • You have CPC accreditation.
  • You’re flexible, enthusiastic, and can commit to the on-call rota and shift patterns.
