Your Role

As a Technical Manager, you will play a pivotal role in delivering excellence across complex building projects. Reporting to the Head of Building Structures, you’ll lead a talented team of engineers and technicians, guiding technical delivery on diverse projects across multiple sectors. This is your chance to shape high-quality engineering solutions, nurture team development, and contribute to the growth of our structural engineering service within Kier Design's 750-strong design practice.

Are You…

  • A Chartered Structural Engineer (CEng MIStructE / MICE)?
  • Experienced in leading technical delivery on complex building structures projects?
  • Confident designing with steel, concrete, timber, and masonry to Eurocodes?
  • Passionate about mentoring engineers and developing high-performing teams?
  • Experienced in a multidisciplinary design environment?

Do You…

  • Lead structural design on major, multi-storey building projects?
  • Prepare and review calculations, drawings, reports, and specifications?
  • Conduct site inspections and identify structural defects?
  • Develop fee proposals, manage resources, and ensure effective project delivery?
  • Collaborate with clients, design teams, and stakeholders?
  • Drive low-carbon design and sustainability targets?

Your Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Lead fee proposals, resource planning, and project delivery.
  • Manage and mentor engineers and technicians within a regional team.
  • Act as the technical lead on complex building structures projects.
  • Conduct site inspections and identify structural issues and solutions.
  • Produce and review calculations, drawings, models, and reports.
  • Coordinate structural design with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Set and deliver structural design strategies aligned with sustainability targets.
  • Lead design input at project meetings with clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with Building Regulations and the Building Safety Act.

What We’re Looking For

This role is perfect for you if you are:

  • A Chartered Engineer (CEng) with IStructE or ICE, holding a relevant Civil/Structural Engineering degree.
  • Experienced in designing large, multi-storey structures using steel and reinforced concrete.
  • Knowledgeable about UK regulations including CDM, Building Safety Act, and Party Wall Act.
  • Proficient in designing across steel, concrete, timber, and masonry to European Standards.
  • Experienced in site inspections (new builds and existing structures) and identifying structural defects.
  • Skilled in TEDDS, Tekla Structural Designer, Masterseries, and Revit, working to ISO19650 BIM standards.
  • Proven in checking/design review, technical reporting, and delivering projects on budget and schedule.
