Are you ready to make a difference? We’re on the lookout for a passionate Mechanical Engineer to join our dynamic team at Cambridgeshire County Council in beautiful Huntingdon.
Location & Hours
Location: Huntingdon, Cambridgeshire (with occasional travel to various sites required)
Hours: Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 5 PM (with a one-hour lunch break; out-of-hours cover may be required)

Your Role
As a Mechanical Engineer, you will be an integral part of our Facilities Management team, ensuring that our maintenance services are top-notch across all Cambridgeshire County Council sites. This mobile role will have you based at New Shire Hall, where you’ll tackle a variety of planned and reactive maintenance tasks. You’ll be the go-to person for mechanical issues, helping to keep our buildings safe, compliant, and fully operational. Your Responsibilities
In this role, you will:
- Complete planned preventative maintenance tasks, including Legionella compliance, HVAC systems, pumps, compressors, and AHUs.
- Respond to reactive maintenance requests, diagnose faults, and carry out repairs to mechanical systems and plumbing.
- Accurately record all maintenance activities using our CAFM system and mobile technology.
- Liaise with the helpdesk and contract management team, and induct subcontractors to ensure compliance with health and safety procedures.
- Participate in an out-of-hours on-call rota and conduct weekly site inspections.
What We’re Looking For
This role is a great fit for you if:
- You hold a full driving license and relevant qualifications such as City and Guilds or NVQ Level 2/3.
- You have experience with renewables, heat pumps, air conditioning, air handling units, and general mechanical maintenance in commercial properties.
- You’re confident using mobile technology to update work systems and communicate effectively with teams and clients.
- You’re comfortable with the physical aspects of the role and committed to maintaining the highest health and safety standards.
